Rosepetals Player of the Month: August Nominees

The first month of the season has been and gone in a flash, and it’s time to vote for your Rosepetals Player of the Month.

Abbo’s men played seven games in August – winning five, including progression to the qualifying rounds of the Emirates FA Cup, and tasting defeat in two as they end August in eighth place in the league.

But who was the month’s stand out player? It was difficult to narrow it down to just four nominees, but have a read and decide who you want to vote for…

August 2017 POTM

The first nominee is Sam Agar. The striker may only have scored one goal in his six games in August, but he proved scoring goals isn’t the be all and end all for a forward with assists galore. Despite two missed penalties, Agar assisted no fewer than eight goals in a month where he brought up his 50th game for the club.

Strike partner George Bowerman also makes the list. In his first month with the club the former Walsall striker scored eight goals, combining cool, calm finishes with classy strikes such as his lob at Stafford. Only Atherstone’s Alex Naughton scored more times than Bowerman this month of anyone in Division One.

While two strikers have made the shortlist so far, football is about keeping them about at the other end as well, and Haydn Whitcombe had a fine month between the sticks. He pulled off important saves to keep AFC on level terms against Nuneaton Griff and Paget Rangers, while also keeping Atherstone Town at bay on Monday until Naughton’s late show. Carl Abbott and Paul Tomlinson have praised the former Littleton stopper for being louder this term.

The final nominee is Sean Williams. Willo became our highest ever appearance maker this month, overtaking Ryan Seal’s appearance record, and belied his years with more energetic displays whether playing up front, on the wing or in the middle. A stunning strike set the side on their way against Worksop, while his brace against Nuneaton Griff also kickstarted that success.

The vote is live for exactly a week, meaning you have until next Friday, 8th September, to cast your votes. You can do so on the poll pinned to our Twitter page, https://twitter.com/hinckley_afc, or head to hinckleyafc.org.uk/voting.
