Between them, Hinckley AFC and Wolves Sporting are undefeated in 25 matches. Something will have to give when they meet in the First Round of the Buildbase FA Vase at St John’s Park tomorrow.
Carl Abbott’s side are undefeated since August’s 3-0 loss at Bromsgrove Sporting, and have gone nine games without being beaten since then. That includes seven wins in a run that has seen them net 35 goals.
Meanwhile, Wolves Sporting haven’t lost a game since the opening day of the season, when Tividale beat them 2-1 in the Extra Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup.
Since then, they have extended their unbeaten run to sixteen matches, including a streak of eleven straight wins. They have drawn three of their last five matches, though, which has seen them slip to second behind Haughmond in the West Midlands Regional League table.
They do have a game in hand however, a win in which will see them move back to the summit.
Undeniably, their biggest threat so far this season has come from Daniel Westwood. Already he has scored 23 goals in fourteen games this campaign, but keeping eight clean sheets shows they are far more than a one man team.
The sides met twice in two different cup competitions last season – Hinckley recording a comprehensive 5-0 win in the FA Vase before Sporting gained their revenge with a 2-1 win in the JW Hunt Cup.
The winner tomorrow will receive £675 from the FA’s prize pot. Should the tie be level after ninety minutes, extra time will be played. If the sides still can’t be separated after the extra half hour, a replay will take place at Wolves Sporting’s Hazel Lane ground on Tuesday.
