Hinckley AFC’s journey in the Buildbase FA Vase continues when they face Greenwood Meadows this afternoon, kick off 3pm.
AFC comfortably progressed through the first qualifying round a fortnight ago with a win at Holbrook Sports, and travel to Holbrook’s divisional rivals knowing a win will take them into the first round proper for a second consecutive year.
In contrast, Greenwood have been knocked out of the Vase in their first game for the last two seasons, and will want to end that run with a win over AFC.
Carl Abbott’s side have won four of their last five in all competitions, scoring seventeen goals in the process, and tomorrow face a Greenwood side who beat Holrbook by a goal to nil on Wednesday.
That ended a run of four straight defeats for the Nottinghamshire side, who sit 19th in the East Midlands Counties League table having won two and lost eight of their ten games.
The match will be Greenwood’s first taste of the Vase this year, having been afforded a bye into the second qualifying round.
Should the match be level after 90 minutes extra time will be played at Lenton Lane, with a replay on Wednesday only being required if the tie is still level after the additional half hour.
The winners of the tie will progress to the first round of the competition in four weeks’ time, and will receive £800 prize money from the FA.
Greenwood Meadows play at Lenton Lane, Clifton Bridge, Nottingham, NG7 2SA. The ground is one of two on Lenton Lane, with Dunkirk – also of the East Midlands Counties League – playing a stone’s throw up the road.
