Ponchinello’s Player of the Month for February: The Nominees
The nominees have been revealed for Hinckley AFC’s Player of the Month for February, with all four players needing your votes to be crowned the winner.
An impressive end to the month saw Carl Abbott’s side put their defeat to Heath Hayes behind them, recording four wins and a hard-fought draw at league leaders Coventry United since then.
The back four have kept three clean sheets throughout the month, with Lee Thomas in contention to win the award for the second consecutive month after winning in December (January’s award was postponed, much like the majority of games in the month!)
Darious Darkin is the first nominee. The midfielder has looked calm and assured in the middle of the park, and started in five of the six games in February. He didn’t find the net himself, but set up numerous chances, including a magnificent through ball to set up Ryan Seal’s opener at Coventry United.
The returning Javia Roberts is next on the list. The winger settled back into life at Hinckley AFC well after his spell at Bedford Town and his blistering pace and trickery caused no end of problems for full backs. He scored four goals in five games in February and was Man of the Match against Cadbury Athletic.
Another player who won a Man of the Match award during February was Mitchell Tomlinson, against Bolehall Swifts, and an impressive month from the full back earns him a nomination. Rarely caught out by opposition wingers, the 19-year-old also seamlessly slotted into centre back against Cadbury and has played every minutes of the last five games.
While Tomlinson has been solid on the right hand side on the back four, the same can be said of Thomas on the left. A third consecutive nomination for the former Southam man as he goes from strength to strength in his first few months in AFC’s number three shirt.
