No Train, No Gain
Today marked the official start of Hinckley AFC’s second season in existence with the return of players for what was a gruelling but hugely rewarding first day back in the saddle for Carl Abbott’s team.
As is the norm with any pre-season, the main focus on the initial workouts was to gauge the initial fitness levels of the players involved and help assess a number of trialists looking to stake a claim as part of the squad head of the big kick off in August.
The day saw established AFC players line up alongside new recruits and those looking to impress Abbo and his coaching team with a high intensity double session either side of a light lunch; all part of what has been a meticulously thought through pre-season schedule.
Kitted out in some of the club’s latest training wear (which we hope will be available to supporters ahead of the imminent summer holidays), players put in a hugely impressive shift as their levels of fitness, application and ability were tested in damp conditions.
Despite tiredness creeping in during the latter part of the day, the players showed an eagerness to get stuck in that is sure to stand the group in good stead ahead of the next session on Tuesday and another big fitness based day next Saturday.
We managed to catch up with returning AFC players Marco Adaggio, Alex Morris and Avun Jephcott midway through the day for their thoughts on the return to action. The video interview can be seen on our YouTube channel, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rt56WKuOGFY
