Hinckley AFC’s backroom team Paul Tomlinson and Simon Mellor have praised the way their side have taken their chances in the last two games.
In the absence of Carl Abbott due to the birth of his daughter, Tomlinson and Mellor took the reigns for the visit of Stafford Town and saw their team plunder nine goals.
That added to the 13 they netted against Southam United last week, and Tomlinson said taking the chances has been a major positive in the last week. He said: ‘I’m very pleased. You’ve got to give the lads full credit for the last couple of games.
‘We’ve come out and done a job on two teams and the most important thing for me is when we’ve had chances, we’ve taken them. That will always ease the situation for you in games.
‘There have been games throughout the season where we’ve just not put teams to bed, but today we’ve done that and last week was the same.
‘It was a very thorough, professional performance and we deserved the three points.’
The chief tormentor over the ninety minutes was Sam Agar. The striker netted five times to take his tally for the club to 17 in 12. Mellor was full of praise for the way Agar leads the line.
‘Sam’s played at a very high standard, he’s a very good player, and he leads that line. He can get up there and mix it aerially, and he wins a lot of balls for his size.
‘Going the other way, he’s just electric. Once you put that ball in behind he never gives it up. He’s like a little terrier who just keeps going and going and going, and most importantly he knows how to finish.’
But while Agar took the headlines, Lee Butler’s performance in the middle of the park made him an ‘unsung hero’ according to Tomlinson.
‘We haven’t seen the best of Lee yet, I don’t think. We’ll see that next year now but Lee’s great. We’ve got a really good side now and it’s difficult to pick out individuals but you can do that all over our park.
‘Lee’s fantastic – he can play wide right if we need him to, but he can mix it, he can pass, he’s very energetic, he can go box to box. He’s a little unsung hero for me at the minute and he’ll only get better.
‘Going into next season with the squad of players that we’ve got is really exciting.’
