Abbo: Scoreline Flatters to Deceive
Hinckley AFC manager Carl Abbott said the 8-2 scoreline in his side’s victory over Studley ‘flattered to deceive’.
Hinckley were clinical going forward and created chances all afternoon, but the former Wolves Casuals manager felt his side were loose in defence and gave away two sloppy goals.
He said: ‘The scoreline flatters to deceive a little bit. We huffed and puffed, and it sounds strange but we never really controlled the game, the game was never under complete control.
‘We were dangerous on the break and quite clinical in front of goal, but as I say we huffed and puffed and didn’t have the control in the game that I would have liked, and we defended a little lackadaisically to concede.
‘So the positives are eight goals and three points up, and it looks ok on paper. It’s a confidence builder for us, but we can be far better and will have to be far better this week with the two games we’ve got coming up.’
Abbo reserved special praise for the front three of Marco Adaggio, Luke Richards and Javia Roberts, who scored seven goals between them and linked up on numerous occasions throughout the match.
‘I think what we were all about today was our forward play. When we broke, we broke with conviction and we were clinical today when we got around the box. Those three deserve all the plaudits and we’ll obviously take them today. They were ably assisted by Sean (Williams) at the point of our midfield.
‘We looked good going forward but uncharacteristically we weren’t great defensively, but I don’t have any long term concerns over that and the two things will combine when we get them both right at the same time. The signs are good going forward.’
