Hinckley AFC 3-1 Blackstones

Hinckley returned to winning ways as they produced their most complete performance of the campaign to brush aside Blackstones.

Following the disappointment of the previous two home games, a win and an improved display were essential and the fans got both.

Though the first half was goalless, once Chandler Pegg gave them the lead soon after the interval, the destiny of the points was never in doubt as Hinckley responded well to the late disappointment they experienced 48 hours earlier.

AFC passed the ball well in the early stages, making good use of both flanks and delivering a number of crosses into the box, but Blackstones defended well and chances were limited. Zach Tellyn screwed a shot wide from the edge of the area whilst Blackstones’ best effort was a Josh Sennett free kick that was deflected wide.

Hinckley took the lead within a couple of minutes of the restart, a corner was partially cleared for Danny Fraser to deliver a teasing ball into the danger zone that wasn’t well defended and Pegg, who led the line superbly all night, lashed home the loose ball.

Blackstones threatened when Andy Irvine fired over at the end of a quick counter attack and Callum Davies whipped a dangerous free kick across the face of the box before Hinckley doubled their lead on the hour.

Tellyn worked his way into the box, and when his shot was blocked by Max Peverell, Luke Jones was in the right place to convert the rebound.

Soon after, Fin Barker was inches away from connecting with Pegg’s inviting ball across the six yard box before AFC added to their lead, Jacob Shilton converting from close range amid a chaotic scramble in the area.

The visitors pulled one back in time added on as Sennett tapped home from close range but there was no denying Hinckley a much needed and thoroughly deserved victory.
