Match Preview: Godmanchester Rovers (h)

The curtain comes down on Hinckley AFC’s 2025/26 season with a home game against Godmanchester Rovers at Kirkby Road.

A win would guarantee Hinckley an 11th place finish after a season full of change in both management and playing personnel, while three points would also offer an outside chance of a top-half spot if other results go in their favour.

A win, and a draw for that matter, would also take Hinckley to the 50-point tally for the campaign and they’ll look to extend their positive end to the campaign which has seen them win three of their previous four games.

The opposition

Like Hinckley, Godmanchester also saw a decent little run come to an end on Easter Monday, as a 3-0 loss to Moulton brought the end to a four-match unbeaten streak.

They have made the most of their reprieve last season, when they finished bottom, by comfortably avoiding any threat of the drop this time around – they’re 14th, with 45 points and one game left.

Their season has been inconsistent but they’ve proved they can compete with the top sides. They drew twice against Nuneaton and also took points off Coventry United, March and Histon twice – but have also lost to bottom side Oadby and fifth-bottom Easington.

22 of their 45 points have come away from home – with only the top six losing fewer games on the road, and even though only four sides have scored fewer goals this season, captain Craig Gillies is always a threat up front. He needs one more for 20 this season while Ben Seymour-Shove has 10.

From the dressing room

“When we came in, we said we’d give youth a chance and when you look at the number of young players who have been involved over the last few weeks, that’s a huge positive and sets us in good stead going into next season. For our last game of the season, we’ll have a right go and try to send you as fans home on a high for the campaign. We know we’ve got the group to go and attack the game and play good football. We saw that against Daventry last week when we were excellent, creating lots of chances and landing on balls.”
