Hinckley AFC go in search of back-to-back wins for the first time in 2026 with this weekend’s non-league day visit to Northampton ON Chenecks.
Last weekend’s win away to Easington Sports was a first away from home of the calendar year for Hinckley and gave AFC a boost heading into the final four games of the season.
They will hope to continue that away to ON Chenecks, and will want to replicate the result from the League Cup tie at Billing Road in November when Hinckley won 3-1 to reach the quarter-finals.
The opposition
The recent parallels between Hinckley and ON Chenecks have continued this season. Both lost in the play-offs at step six in 2023, won promotion in 2024, then the sides finished just two points apart last season at step five and the same margin separates them with only four games left of this campaign.
They have had a mixed recent run – two wins, two defeats and a home goalless draw with local rivals Sileby Rangers make up their last five games. The victory over Newport Pagnell Town was particularly notable – Tyrun Primus scoring a hat-trick as they came from behind to win 3-2 in the last minute.
But that was mixed in among a couple of heavy defeats to Coventry United and Aylestone Park and mean they, like Hinckley, are two of up to six teams still hopeful of ending in 10th place and a top-half finish.
Hinckley won both previous meetings this season 3-1 – an August Bank Holiday win at Kirkby Road which was firmly backs-to-the-wall in the second half, before that League Cup success at Billing Road five months ago.
Lewis Irwin is their top scorer again with 24 this season, while Primus and Ijah Augustine have nine.
