Hinckley AFC are back at Kirkby Road on Saturday for a first ever meeting with a Moulton side just a point ahead of them in the table.
After impressive, if slightly inconsistent, starts to the United Counties Premier South season, both Hinckley and Moulton find themselves on the edge of the play-off spots around the midway point of the campaign.
Hinckley know a win this weekend will take them above Moulton and potentially into the top five, as they look to get back to winning ways following last week’s loss at Yaxley.
And the management team have been boosted by the returns of Chandler Pegg, James Sanderson and Keelan Fallows to training this week with their returns to match action being carefully managed.
The opposition
Promoted from step six via the play-offs last season, Moulton have settled nicely into life at step five and sit fifth in the table, two places and one point above Hinckley.
Like AFC’s last opponents Yaxley, their form has been much stronger at home than on the road – they have picked up 22 of their 31 points at their Brunting Road base.
The latest of those was an impressive 3-1 win over Coventry United last week, a seventh in nine games at home, while away, they have won at local rivals Sileby Rangers and ON Chenecks and most recently Easington Sports – which was their first win outside of Northampton this season and ended a run of four straight away league defeats.
Nat Ansu, the former Harborough Town striker, is their leading scorer with nine goals while Nathan Amaning has six. But their most recognisable face to Hinckley fans comes in midfield, where ex-Hinckley United winger and fans favourite Andy Hall captains the side.
From the dressing room
“We won’t put any unnecessary pressure on the lads after last week, we just want to do the right things and if you do them well, you tend to win games. We watched Moulton’s win over Coventry United last week, when they looked good and it seemed like they dominated that game. So they’ll be a tough test for us.
“That said, bar Nuneaton and the second half against March, we’ve showed up against the teams around us and towards the top this season. We’ll concentrate on us, but as ever we’ll look forward to the game and being back at home in front of our own fans.”
