Match Preview: Yaxley (a)

Hinckley AFC reach the midway point of their United Counties Premier South season tomorrow as they face Yaxley for the second time in as many weeks.

Just seven days after beating them 5-2 at Kirkby Road, Hinckley make the trip to Peterborough to face the Cuckoos again hoping to replicate the performance and result from the reverse fixture last week.

The match will also be Hinckley’s 19th out of their 38 league games this season, and although they have played more games than the sides around them, being on the cusp of the play-off spots gives AFC plenty to play for heading into the second half of the campaign.

The opposition

The trip to Leading Drove is likely to be a tougher 90 minutes for Hinckley, given that 14 out of Yaxley’s 15 points this season have come at home.

On their home patch, they have beaten the likes of Moulton (keeping a clean sheet) and Daventry Town, and also taken points off fourth-placed Histon and another top-half side in ON Chenecks. Since the end of July, only Atherstone Town and Aylestone Park have won there – both of those games ended 2-0.

From the dressing room

“We said before we started the game last week that this was a double-header for us, a six-pointer. We took three last week and hopefully we’ll take the other three this weekend. They might think that how we set up last week is how we do it most weeks, but we’ve got a selection headache with players that have come back and lots to think about.”
