A third local derby in a row sees Hinckley AFC welcome Lutterworth Town on Monday night with the sides level on points in the United Counties Premier South table.
Saturday’s excellent win at Leicester Nirvana brought up an important first victory of the month for AFC and took Hinckley back up to seventh.
And that means just goal difference separates Hinckley from Lutterworth heading into the sides’ meeting at Kirkby Road.
The opposition
A vastly different outfit from the one Hinckley faced on the final day of last season, Lutterworth are under new management after Callum Earls and Matt Langham took over in the summer and they have assembled a squad with plenty of step four experience.
And they were on a run of four straight wins until Saturday, when they were on the end of a cup upset by Heather St John’s in the FA Vase.
In the league, it’s four wins out of five including three clean sheets, the only blot in that time being a 1-0 loss at ON Chenecks, and they are one of only three sides to take points off Nuneaton so far – when they were 2-0 up before being pegged back to draw.
And it could be an intriguing battle between Hinckley’s attack – the second-best in the UCL South this season – and the league’s third-best defence from Lutterworth.
At the other end, Liam Read leads their goalscoring charts with seven while left-back Louie Gill, a signing from Corby Town earlier this season, has four.
From the dressing room
“We know what to expect from Lutterworth – I went to watch them the other week when they beat Atherstone 3-0 away from home and they were a strong side. We expect every game to be tough and this will be another one.”
