After a win in their first league game in charge, Ross Innes, Adam Davies and Chris Tullin will hope for a repeat when another Northampton team, Sileby Rangers, visit Kirkby Road this weekend.
Hinckley beat Northampton ON Chenecks on Bank Holiday Monday thanks to goals from Chandler Pegg, Jared Bradshaw and Henley Hadley as the new management team tasted victory in their first home game.
It means AFC are now three league games without defeat, heading into their final game of a rollercoaster August.
The opposition
While Sileby Rangers are without a win in the league, they have beaten a UCL South team this season – thumping Aylestone Park 4-1 away from home in the FA Cup for what is undoubtedly their standout result of the campaign so far. Like Hinckley, they were knocked out by a strong step four team in the preliminary round, losing to Corby Town.
Kobi Bivens grabbed a hat-trick at Aylestone and another four against a Brackley Town in their county cup recently, to make him the league’s top goalscorer this season – albeit nine of his 10 have come in cup competitions.
But defeat to Godmanchester Rovers, losing 3-2 having led twice, leaves them second from bottom in the early season table with two draws and three defeats from five games.
Both of their points came away from home – 2-2 at Leicester Nirvana and 1-1 at Easington Sports, in which they came from behind with 10 men after goalkeeper Dean Love was sent off.
From the dressing room
“On Monday, the crowd really helped give the lads a bit of a lift when we needed it during the second half. It was great and we’re keen to see as many people supporting us as possible.
“We’ll come into this game with the same mentality as on Monday. If you work harder than the opposition, generally you will come out on top and that’s what you’ll get from Adam, Ross and myself – our teams will always work hard.”
