Match Preview: GNG Oadby Town (h)

Hinckley AFC’s first home game of 2025 sees a local derby with GNG Oadby Town at Kirkby Road on Saturday.

After back-to-back away draws at the end of 2024 and the start of 2025, Hinckley’s good recent run has stretched to one defeat in their last eight league games.

Key to that has been an excellent home run that has seen them go unbeaten at Kirkby Road since the end of August, one which they’ll aim to extend into the new year, starting against county rivals Oadby this weekend.

The opposition

The cold weather means Oadby have gone four weeks without a competitive game, since losing to ON Chenecks on 21st December.

That was a fifth consecutive defeat for them, without a point since a 3-2 win over Leicester Nirvana in mid-November.

But they have shown the ability to compete with sides towards the top – only narrowly going down 2-1 to Rugby Borough and drawing with play-off chasers Daventry and ON Chenecks.

They, as well as a remarkable 7-2 win over Lutterworth in which they came from 2-1 down at half time, show their fight to climb out of the bottom two and overcome the four-point deficit they have on third-bottom Bugbrooke.

From the dressing room

“We won well against Oadby in August but they were a big threat going forward. Since then they’ve lost Lamar, their striker, to Aylestone but they’ve still got dangerous players and we’re well aware of the threat they do possess. They can still pick up results like beating Lutterworth 7-2, which was a massive result for them.

They’re in a battle to stay up, they’ll be fighting for their lives, but we’re fighting for a different challenge and we’ve got to do all we can to win the game. We’re at home and on a good run, but Godmanchester made it difficult for us before Christmas and we expect Oadby to do the same.”
