Bugbrooke St Michaels 3-1 Hinckley AFC

Hinckley failed to build on Saturday’s victory as they slumped to a desperately disappointing defeat at a blustery Bugbrooke.

A couple of home goals either side of half time left Hinckley with a mountain to climb, but Brady Middleton pulled one back on the hour, only for Bugbrooke to restore their two goal advantage within a couple of minutes to wrap up the points.

Playing into the wind, AFC looked the likelier side in the first half. Adam Barber produced a couple of surging runs down the left flank but no one could finish his crosses into the box and Bryan Kohyrelon fired narrowly over the bar.

Then Lewis Rankin curled an effort wide of the far post before he became the latest addition to the treatment table when he limped off.

Bugbrooke took the lead seven minutes before the break, a final individual goal from Romeo Ingman who picked up a loose ball on halfway and raced towards the penalty area before planting a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.

The home side doubled their lead shortly after the interval, Jake Webster got to the left hand byline and his low cross reached Harry Slaymaker on the far post to finish.

Hinckley grabbed themselves a lifeline on the hour, a delightful pass inside the full back from Luke Jones sent Middleton through in the inside left channel and he took the ball around the keeper before finishing well from an acute angle.

But the hope experienced by the visiting contingent was quickly extinguished. Hinckley needlessly gave the ball away to Ingman who, 30 yards out, seized his opportunity with a superb shot that dipped over the despairing Divin Emmanuel into the net.

Try as they might, there was no way back for Hinckley. Harry Walker-Donovan had a powerful shot deflected wide and Oli Szymanski drove over but Hinckley’s frustrating, inconsistent form remains.
