Match Preview: March Town United (a)

Hinckley AFC head to March Town United for the final game of August in what manager Joe Conneely says will be the “hardest away game of the season.”

AFC will have Conneely in sole charge again after Courtney Hunter-Belford stepped down to spend more time with his family following Tuesday’s draw with Northampton Sileby Rangers.

And he will lead the side on their furthest trip of the season, with an 80-mile journey to March next on the agenda for Hinckley.

The opposition

After a play-off defeat last season, March have started well in their attempts to go one better this time. They have won three, drawn two and lost one of their games so far, including being the only team this season to beat Aylestone Park.

Their only defeat was a surprise one, at home by Godmanchester Rovers for whom that is their only win, and they picked up a good three points on Bank Holiday Monday away to Newport Pagnell Town.

Craig Gillies is their leading scorer with seven goals already, while six other players have also found the net so far but none of them more than once.

From the dressing room

“I can’t wait for September 1st, we’re never good in August! For some reason, whether it’s too many players, or playing so many games, we never get off to great starts. And it doesn’t get easier – for me, this is our hardest away game of the season. It’s our longest travel, we’ll be in the car a long time and they have a large and boisterous crowd, who are hostile and in your face. It’s a fantastic challenge for us and one we’ll look forward to.”
