Hinckley AFC will look to maintain their good recent form with a trip to another of the league’s stronger starters Wednesfield.
The trip to the West Midlands will be AFC’s first away game in the league for nearly a month, with the FA Vase tie at Eccleshall their only away day since the back-to-back wins at Bilston Town and Nuneaton Griff.
After a return to winning ways against Paget Rangers last week, Joe Conneely and Courtney Hunter-Belford will look to pick up where they left off result-wise last weekend after the first free midweek of the season.
The opposition
Wednesfield have enjoyed a good start to the season, with a defeat to Shawbury last week only their second of the campaign so far. With four wins and a draw, they have 13 points from their seven games and sit eighth, but with a game on hand on most sides above them.
Jay Holdcroft and Kie Houlihan have three goals apiece, while ex-Hinckley man Dimitri Dunkley is into a second season at Amos Lane and has chipped in with a couple. The same is true for another former Hinckley man, their club captain Nathan Walker.
Previous meetings
The two meetings last season were both close, hard-fought encounters with the home side prevailing by the odd goal. A largely chanceless September meeting at Amos Lane ended 1-0 to the hosts courtesy of a second-half header from a set piece, before Hinckley won 2-1 at Kirkby Road in April courtesy of a Lewis Collins double.
From the dressing room
“They’re a good team and it’s a tough place to go. I remember it well last year, it was an awful game and we lost 1-0. But we’re a different group now, I think they are too. I’ve spoken to a few people and done homework to prepare for them. It’s a tough away game, always one of the tougher ones you’ll face. Bring it on, it’s another game where if we play well we can hopefully pick up a result. It’ll be difficult but we’ll go there and try to win a game as we always do.”
