Hinckley AFC’s third consecutive home game sees the visit of GNG Oadby Town for a county derby on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
Hinckley lost out narrowly to Newport Pagnell Town and Moulton in the last two weeks, both in similar circumstances having fallen two goals down before half time and been unable to claw it back despite a second-half improvement – so they will hope that it’s third time lucky with the visit of Oadby this weekend.
AFC will welcome back all of the players who missed out last week through being cup-tied, but will remain without Luke Jones, Reece Massey and Ashton De Mulder, whose lower leg, knee and hamstring issues will keep them all out until the end of the season.
The opposition
Having not played for more than two weeks, Oadby dropped to the bottom of the table last week when back-to-back wins for Bugbrooke St Michaels lifted them ahead of Oadby. They are seven points behind third-bottom Yaxley but have three games in hand as they try to claw their way to safety.
Oadby haven’t played since 11th February, when they lost 9-0 to Coventry United, so have had plenty of times to put things right following their heaviest defeat of the season.
They did beat Bugbrooke at the end of January, the most recent of their four league wins this season, and their only away win of the campaign came at second-placed March back in September, but their most impressive scalp came in the FA Vase when they turned over league leaders Nuneaton.
Their leading scorer Mario Mendez scored twice in that game but he, alongside eight-goal Emanuel Nnaji, joined Barwell last month before moving to Aylestone Park earlier this week.
From the dressing room
“We’ll be expected to get three points but no team has a divine right to win games in this league. Oadby beat Nuneaton in the Vase earlier this season and you only have to look at Bugbrooke beating March last week to see that league positions mean very little. We’ll go into it gung-ho off the back of our recent results, but they’ll be bang up for it as well in their need for points to stay up.”
