Management update: December

The latest management update from Ross, Adam and Chris comes ahead of an Christmas period for Hinckley AFC…

“Fans, first we hope you’re well and looking forward to the Christmas period. We most certainly are, with some big games ahead. We’ve had the benefit of a bit of a rest which we think we needed, not only to give the lads a physical break, but also to bring the group together, build camaraderie in and out of training and work on the changes we made that showed in the March game where ultimately, we did not get what we deserved.

We are pleased to inform you that club captain Zaki Evans is due to return to training next week, Lewis Rankin returned to training on Tuesday, James Sanderson is now fit and Chandler Pegg continues to return to fitness. Caleb Yeboah, Prince Ogbe and Jared Bradshaw are close to full recovery, and Keelan Fallows has acquitted himself professionally since his return from injury.

The illness that has blighted the country seems to have mostly passed through our team during the break. We’ve had chance to watch and reflect on the March game and it was as close to a complete performance as we’ve had without victory. That said, you cannot come away with nothing. We must capitalise when we’re good, and be honest where we’re not. The March game and Moulton second half were worlds apart, but with the same outcome.

Will Harris has stepped up a level to Rugby Town and we wish him all the best. We never stand in the way of players looking to better themselves and he was transparent with us from the offset that he would look to step up if the opportunity arose. You cannot fault that, it is professional and we thank him for his time with us.

Ultimately, we have to kick on now with consistency and the intensity we showed against March. Everyone is beating everyone in this league so maintaining performance levels will be the differentiator. The pitches will become heavy during winter and we’ll need to adapt away from home, but one thing is for certain, we’ll work hard on continuously improving and building, not only for success this season but also beyond.

A huge thanks is extended to Ron Ashby & the board for the investment in a Hudl camera which will enable us to video games, and provide the lads with visual feedback post-match and training so that they can see where they have been good, and where they need to be accountable for improvement.

DJ, Gunny, Cal, Keith, Lee and the rest of the board are ever present both at training, and in general whenever required. It truly is invaluable, and we hope that they, and the rest of our voluntary group, continue to get the recognition they deserve.

It’s taken a while, but we finally feel we have settled now, both in terms of squad (although there will always be comings and goings) but more so in the ability to say we can kick on now, and with half a season to go, there is plenty of time to do so. Rest assured, we have not come here to be middle of the road. Hinckley AFC is a massive club, so performances where everything has been left out there are warranted weekly. We will all collectively continue to graft, have honesty and integrity in what we do, and win together.

We value your support, it’s loud and it is heard.

Ross, Adam and Tulls”
