Match Preview: Ashby Ivanhoe (a)

Hinckley AFC play the first of back-to-back away Cup games with the trip to Ashby Ivanhoe in the Leicestershire Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.

Another quick turnaround after Saturday’s win away to Eynesbury Rovers sees Hinckley’s busy October come to an end with a county cup clash, ahead of November starting with a League Cup trip to Northampton.

The opposition

Long-serving manager Andy Gray left Ashby in the summer and a number of players went too, meaning a complete rebuild for incoming boss Lee Barratt.

That meant a tricky start to the season, which sees them bottom of the United Counties Premier North with nine points from their 14 games.

Despite those numbers, they have been competitive in every game (they’ve only lost by more than two goals once) and despite losing their first eight games in all competitions, they were five unbeaten in the league until back-to-back defeats in the last week.

Will Robson leads the way in front of goal with eight, while Sam Birks has seven.

From the dressing room

“We want to win every game. We’ve said before that we’re not here to be second best in any game, and whatever team we put out, we want a similar performance to the one we put in on Saturday.

“That’s how our teams play. We have quality in abundance but you’ve got to do the hard work first. We’ll be going there to progress in the competition.”
