Shilton returns to bolster defensive ranks

Hinckley AFC have completed the signing of defender Jacob Shilton, who returns to the club from Atherstone Town.

The young centre-back had a brief spell with the club on dual registration last season, and now returns on a more permanent basis to add a vital defensive option, following the injuries to Ky Green and Lucinee Donzo, and the end of Sam Warburton’s dual registration period.

Shilton came through the youth system at Atherstone, and was a standout player in their successful Under 18s side that Ross Innes and Adam Davies brought to the club when in charge there, and which new Hinckley AFC coach Lee Davies helped lead.

Having broken into the first team, he featured more than 60 times for the Adders, around half of them starts, either side of that temporary stint with Hinckley – including a start in Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Rushall Olympic.

Joint boss Adam Davies said: “Jacob is a technically gifted player who is dominant in the air and strong in both boxes.

“He’s made a huge amount of step five appearances for his age and will be a player that fans will warm to. He has a bright future ahead of him and he will certainly progress up the football ladder quickly.

“Jacob was actually the first player we put seven days in for. We rate him incredibly highly and with the support of Tulls and Coops, who have so much experience at the level, he will learn quickly with regular playing time.”

Welcome back to Hinckley, Jacob!
