Two of the United Counties Premier South’s form sides meet at Kirkby Road on Saturday as Hinckley AFC meet Eynesbury Rovers.
The clash in Leicestershire sees the meeting of two sides who have won their last three games – meaning at least one of those records will come to an end.
For Hinckley, wins over play-off chasers March Town United and Northampton ON Chenecks have put them in the mix. AFC will move within a point of the play-offs with a fourth straight victory, but the mid-table section remains extremely tight and Hinckley lead a pack of eight teams separated by just four points.
The opposition
Eynesbury are another of those sides in that pack – they have also won three on the bounce to sit one point, but three places, behind Hinckley.
Wins over Lutterworth, Bugbrooke and Easington – the win at Bugbrooke particularly impressive having come from 2-0 down – have seen them put together their best sequence of the season.
With 18 goals already, Victor Osobu is their undoubted biggest goal threat while Ryan Lewis, who scored against Hinckley on the opening day of the season, has chipped in with five.
Previous meeting
The opening day of the season was an historic day for Hinckley, beating Eynesbury away in the July sunshine for the first game and first win at step five.
Adam Barber scored the club’s first goal after promotion, with second-half strikes by Josh Beeson and Preston Bitemo securing the points.
From the dressing room
“It often takes us until around November to get going and we need to keep going. We need to keep pushing forward. We’ve been so inconsistent with availability, and injuries, and now we’ve finally started to settle we’re seeing the benefits of that.
“Eynesbury are a team who’ll come here fancy it, and are also on an excellent run of form. This league is so open that if you go on a three or four game run, you can quickly find yourself there or thereabouts and both of us have proved that. It was a historic day for the club at their place on the opening day of the season. All we can do is try and repeat that result.”
