Hinckley put on their Sunday best as they recorded their biggest win of the season by beating Rainworth Miners Welfare 5-1 to ease into the next round of the League Cup.
Bryan Kohyrelon and Lewis Rankin both bagged a brace with Harry Walker-Donovan adding another as AFC dominated and only some excellent saves from visiting keeper Ethan Dawe kept the scoreline down.
After a low key start, a dank, grey afternoon was illuminated by a superb opening goal. Rankin started it, taking control in his own box before finding Kohyrelon on half way and his powerful run saw him drive into the area before a step-over and cool finish to put Hinckley ahead.
The same combination doubled the lead moments later. The Rainworth defenders were finding Kohyrelon too much of a handful and when he was upended on the edge of the box by Oliver Brown, Rankin stepped up to convert the penalty.
It was all Hinckley, and their dominance was confirmed by two more goals before the break. Walker-Donovan accepted Luke Jones’ pass in the box before applying a neat finish before the Rankin-Kohyrelon dynamic duo combined again on the stroke of the half as Kohyrelon’s diving header from an inswinging cross found the net.
Within a minute of the second half, Rankin had his second, a trademark finish as he worked the ball onto his left foot before bending one into the top corner as Hinckley threatened to run riot.
That they didn’t was largely down to Dawe – he got down well to save Zaki Evans’ long range effort, before denying Kohyrelon a hat trick by blocking with his legs.
The chances kept on coming, Sam Belcher’s powerful shot was beaten away by Dawe who saved his best for last, a superb tip over save to deny Rankin.
Rainworth scored a late consolation through George Skevington but there was no denying this was, emphatically, Hinckley’s day.
