Hinckley AFC’s Midland League Division One match at Wolves Sporting was abandoned at half time due to a waterlogged pitch.
After a first half played in torrential rain throughout, referee Kieron Rogers conducted an inspection at half time and deemed the condition of the pitch had worsened to the point it would be unsafe to continue.
Hinckley were leading 2-0 at the time courtesy of an own goal and Zaki Evans’ first for the club.
It was an impressive display from Hinckley in what started as light drizzle, as the pitch looked to be coping well in the early stages.
Brady Middleton twice went close, first being forced wide when he rounded goalkeeper Vitor Pinheiro and could only fire wide, before bending one past the far post after cutting inside.
Around 10 minutes in, though, the downpour worsened and it was shortly after that Hinckley took the lead when Tom Weale’s corner was turned into his own net by Sam Baxter.
Evans then headed Lewis Rankin’s corner wide when well-placed as Hinckley but made up for that two minutes before half time when he poked past the onrushing Pinheiro to score his first for the club via the inside of the post.
That, though, was to be pretty much the last action as the three officials emerged during the interval in the continuing rain to inspect the pitch, and deemed it unfit to continue.
