Hinckley AFC made it two wins from two to start their pre-season campaign after a 4-1 victory over Birstall United.
Monday’s home win followed up Saturday’s opener at Heather St John’s with AFC having scored nine times in the opening two friendlies.
Jack Edwards has grabbed four of them from midfield – he opened the scoring against Birstall with a lofted finish from Matt Dawson’s pass.
Birstall, who reached the United Counties Division One play-off final last season, had already hit the post by that point through Paul Pallett’s header with Brandon Bache saving the rebound.
But Hinckley looked good on the ball and Edwards added a second when Birstall only half-cleared Dawson’s pass.
It was 3-0 before half-time, Chandler Pegg with a clinical finish after being sent through on goal, before Birstall pulled one back on the stroke of half time when they reacted quickest to convert the rebound following Bache’s smart save.
The goal of the night was the only one to come in the second half, Harry Walker-Donovan thumping home from the edge of the box, before Mitch Piggon nearly grabbed his first of pre-season but was denied by the upright.
But after two wins from two games against sides at the same level next season, Hinckley will be pleased with their opening matches ahead of a stern test away to step four Quorn on Saturday.
