Match Preview: Haughmond (a)

After a fortnight with no game, Hinckley AFC are back in action with a first-ever visit to Haughmond on Saturday.

Two weeks after their last game, a 2-0 defeat to Droitwich Spa, Joe Conneely’s side are on the road again for one of their longest away days in Division One.

Shrewsbury-based Haughmond are tomorrow’s hosts, with AFC looking to stay third in the table with a win.

Behind the top two, Hinckley still lead a closely-knit pack of four sides – though OJM Black Country are level on points with two games in hand.

Tomorrow’s opponents Haughmond are bottom of the table and looking for wins that will help them escape a second straight relegation, having come down from the Premier Division last term.

They ended 2022 well with a good win at Bridgnorth, but have picked up two points from five games in 2023. Their last outing was a 2-0 reverse away to Ingles.

Mond provided a tough test for Hinckley at Kirkby Road in October, leading 2-1 before AFC turned the game around to win 3-2 in the second half.

Scott Ryan scored both of their goals that night, and he is their leading scorer on 11. Steven Nicholson has chipped in with eight.

AFC could hand debuts to new duo Joe Obi and Luke Francis, while Conneely will also be hoping that Chandler Pegg is fit again after missing the game at Droitwich with an ankle problem.

Haughmond play at Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY1 4RQ.
