Match Preview: Wolves Sporting (h)

Hinckley AFC will play their first league game in three weeks when Wolves Sporting visit Kirkby Road on Saturday afternoon.

AFC have had just one League Cup outing since the defeat to Dudley Town on 7th January but are back in Division One action looking to strengthen their grip on third spot.

But this weekend’s opponents Wolves Sporting have had it even worse when it comes to the weather – they’ve been without a game since a 3-0 defeat to Wednesfield nearly four weeks ago.

Manager Joe Conneely says the stop-start nature to 2023 has been “far from ideal”.

He said: “Nearly every game on grass has been called off over the past couple of weeks. We’re fortunate that we managed to get a League Cup game against Coventry Copsewood in, just to keep everything ticking over.

“But we trained well this week, and put plenty of game-related scenarios in there.

“It means we’ve ticked away nicely – but every team is in the same boat when it comes to lacking match fitness at the minute.”

You can read more from the manager in the matchday programme, available for £1.50 from just inside the turnstiles.

Third to sixth in the table in particular is congested – Hinckley, Bilston Town, OJM Black Country and Droitwich Spa all with similar records while a host of other sides will still hope to add their names to the mix.

One of those will be Wolves Sporting who are ninth, nine points behind fifth-placed OJM Black Country.

Jay Sangha is their leading scorer with seven – and he has just been called up to play for England Schoolboys and Under 18 level.

Three points for the visitors could bump them up to seventh, while a win for Hinckley would see them remain third.
