Manager Joe Conneely has strengthened his Hinckley AFC back line with the addition of central defender Ben Birch.
The dominant centre back, who is good in the air and comfortable on the ball, joins from Midland League Premier side Studley.
The 27-year-old featured in the youth ranks at Cheltenham Town and Mansfield Town but didn’t make a professional appearance.
Since leaving the professional game, he has played for the likes of Redditch United, Stourbridge, Stratford Town and Worcester City.
He’s also spent time in Australia and the Cymru Premier League as well as winning the West Midlands Regional League with Tividale in 2018/19.
Conneely said: “We’re delighted to have Ben on board. He was someone we tried to sign a couple of times when Courtney was in charge, but the move to the United Counties League hindered that.
“Switching back to the Midland League has helped with the move and he brings great experience. He’s won the league at this level and has also played higher so we’re delighted he’s decided to join us.”
Ben goes straight into the squad for Saturday’s Isuzu FA Vase first round tie against Cogenhoe United at Kirkby Road.
Welcome to Hinckley, Ben!
