Manager Joe Conneely said Hinckley AFC’s quick start was crucial in his side’s 5-1 win at Cradley Town.
AFC were 3-0 up by half time in the West Midlands as five different goalscorers helped them to a second straight away win.
Conneely felt his side asserted their authority on the game from early on and praised how the players came flying out of the blocks.
He said: “We played well. We needed to get off to a good start, they frustrated us at our place earlier in the season so we knew that would be the gameplan again.
“We scored a fantastic goal through a great finish from Lewis, and it’s good to see him and Chandler working well up front. Getting a third before half time was crucial and won us the game.
“We played the conditions well and we had a team that did that really well. We’re pleased to follow up beating Stapenhill with another away win.”
In particular, the three first-half goals, from Lewis Collins, Luke Wilson and Lewis Rankin, were fine finishes as Hinckley took control before half time.
“Lewis Collins’ was a fantastic finish. To get across his man and get contact on it to get it into the far post was superb.
“Luke told me yesterday he was going to score, I said ‘make sure it’s in the right net!’. But he’s got that great technique and he caught it really sweetly.
“Ranks slotted his away really well and then we had a stroke of luck with the fourth when the ‘keeper misjudged it.
“But the goal we conceded was awful. We set a target of keeping a clean sheet and giving Brandon something he deserves, and then he slipped over and the lad had a tap in.
“But to kill the game with a fantastic header from Reece was pleasing. We knew it would be hard and we’ve done it really well.”
The manager was also pleased with seeing five different goalscorers on the scoresheet, including an own goal.
He says it’s important not to rely on one person in front of goal and says players from all over the pitch are chipping in well.
“We saw last season we had two key goalscorers and everyone else chipping in, and that’s what we need to do.
“It didn’t happen for Chandler today but we took him off after 65 minutes with more important things to come. It’s a short time to recover from Saturday to Monday so we’ve got to look after everyone as best as we can.
“He’s been fantastic since he came in and he and Lewis are working really well together.”
He also reserved a mention for the vocal travelling support who made the journey across the Midlands – and wants more of those impressive away days in the months to come.
“It was a fantastic following who didn’t stop singing all day. That’s what we want to get back into the club and we’re getting there slowly.
“It’s nice to be back at home on Monday and let’s see if we can follow it up.”
