Hinckley AFC’s Under 18s enjoyed a great start to their new campaign with a 2-0 win at Rugby Borough.
A goal in each half made the difference as AFC’s youngsters started their Eastern Division effort with three points, writes Lee Measom.
Hinckley almost took the lead early on, an original free-kick was cleared to Watkins’ feet who shot from roughly 25 yards to hit the cross bar.
After 20 minutes, Hinckley did take the lead. Clarke found a simple pass to Donaldson who shot from some distance on the right hand side which caught the Rugby keeper off guard and Hinckley had the lead.
Pearce in goal for Hinckley then made a good diving save to his left after Rugby’s 11 managed to beat his man and get the shot off.
Only a minute into the second half, Hinckley had a corner which was nearly a success as Sweenie-Rowe had a header cleared off the line.
But just three minutes later, Hinckley’s corner routine paid off as Kealey whipped the ball in which again found the head of Sweenie-Rowe who this time did find the back of the net with his head.
All in all, it was a solid start for the youngsters who face Coventry Copsewood next in a fortnight’s time.
