A 13th win on the bounce is the target when Hinckley AFC welcome Bourne Town to Kirkby Road this weekend.
AFC’s 12 wins on the bounce is a club-record run that stretches back to the end of November. It means only goal difference separate them from Kimberley Miners Welfare at the top.
Now, Courtney Belford’s side will aim to make it a lucky 13 when Bourne Town make the long trip from Lincolnshire.
Belford goes into the game with a fully fit squad and the added bonus of having Drew Kear return to training ahead of schedule.
Kear made his first appearance of the season in the reverse fixture at Abbey Lawn back in August – and Belford wants his side to replicate their performance on that day that earned a 4-1 win.
He said: “It was a lovely pitch to play on a day where we had lots of key players missing, but our squad players were fantastic that afternoon.
“We needed a result after dropping points in a couple of early games and it was a dominant performance where we moved the ball really well.
“We expect this weekend to be a difficult game. We’ve watched a few of their highlights and we know the way they do things. We’ll prepare as best as possible.
“It’s a big game for us heading into the last eight of the season, and every team will want to be the one to end our run so we’ll have to be at our best.”
After a heavy defeat to Aylestone Park in January, the Wakes have only lost once in the league since then.
They have drawn six of their last eight games, all either 0-0 or 1-1. A 3-1 win against St Andrews and a defeat to Clifton All Whites by the same scoreline are also among their recent results.
But their excellent defensive record has seen them concede only seven times in those last eight. Aaron Warrener is their leading scorer with seven.
