Match Preview: Harrowby United (h)

Hinckley AFC play their first Saturday home match since October when Harrowby United visit Kirkby Road this weekend.

AFC have been forced into midweek or Friday night home matches since returning to Kirkby Road in November – with Barwell playing 15 home matches in a row.

But now they play a Saturday home match at Kirkby Road for the first time since October 2020 looking to stay top of the United Counties League Division One.

Hinckley’s 100% record at Kirkby Road remains in tact – but it was put to the test by Clifton All Whites in their last game ten days ago.

AFC held out for a 4-3 win that day having been 4-0 up at half time – and it’ll be put to the test again against Harrowby this weekend.

The Arrows recorded a superb 5-2 win at fourth-placed Radford last weekend while many other games in Division One were postponed due to the weather.

New signings Matt Wilson, Mustapha John and Elliott King all scored with Wilson and John at the double.

They are making up for the loss of leading scorer Danny Durkin in the autumn, alongside the former Gainsborough Trinity forward Jack McGovern.

That win leaves them in eighth, 13 points back from the play-offs with 11 games to play.

The reserve fixture at Harrowby in October drew parallels to Hinckley’s last match with Clifton. Hinckley were comfortably ahead, before a second half fightback left them hanging on for a 4-3 win.
