Hinckley AFC can confirm the signing of Coventry United midfielder and vice-captain Liam Cairns.
Cairns joins having played 27 times for the Red and Greens in the United Counties Premier South this term, helping guide them to fifth in the table.
The combative midfielder has also captained them on 22 of those occasions, and adds leadership qualities to the Hinckley side as well as considerable step five experience.
Manager Courtney Belford called Cairns a ‘fantastic addition’. He said: “We’ve tried to bring him in a couple of times but just couldn’t get it done. He’s now become available and we were keen to get it over the line.
“He improves us. He’s a winner with lots of experience, he’s played a lot of football at step five and he’s a massive signing for us.
“He’ll fit straight in, and knows a lot of the players already. He’s one the fans will like – he wins headers, wins tackles and allows us to play.”
Cairns joined United from city rivals Coventry Sphinx in 2020, having spent four seasons at Sphinx Drive. He also spent three seasons at Coventry Copsewood prior to that, playing alongside Ryan Harkin and Dom Alleyne.
He comes into the squad as fellow midfielder Dan Hoskins takes some time away from football.
Belford said it’s important that the youngster takes that spell away from the game.
“We don’t want to lose Dan but football always comes secondary and if you aren’t enjoying it then you have to take that time away. We wish him all the best.”
Welcome to Hinckley, Liam!
