Hinckley AFC are pleased to confirm the signing of experienced centre back Jacob Sturgess from Carlton Town.
Sturgess played for Carlton in their win at step four last week, having featured for them over the last two and a half shortened seasons.
Primarily a centre back, he can play anywhere across the back four or in midfield and has played much of his career at a higher level.
He made five appearances for Hinckley in our successful 2016-17 campaign, including playing in the FA Vase win over Quorn, before leaving for pastures new.
He is also one of the few players to feature for both AFC and Hinckley United, having featured in the Knitters’ final season before its liquidation.
Manager Courtney Belford called him “the last piece of the jigsaw” with his added experience. He said: “He brings the experience we need at 28 years old. He’s a big strong lad, will give us a presence, will talk and organise and is a real leader. He’ll be a good signing, another that the fans will like and he’s a great character.”
Jacob also counts Belper Town, Bedworth United, Gresley and Kettering Town, among others, amongst his former clubs.
Welcome back, Jacob!
