Our landlords Barwell FC have confirmed that their installation of a 3G pitch at Kirkby Road will start next week.
The club confirmed that everything is now in place for the work to start next Monday, 19th July. The project will take around 14 weeks to complete.
In a statement released this week, Barwell said: “With the support of the Barwell Cricket and Sports Club, grants from football bodies including the Football Foundation and a host of local people this project can now get underway.
“The state of the art pitch will be ready a few weeks in to the 2021/22 season. Barwell will play all of their friendlies away from home in the pre-season and will then look to amend the early league fixtures whilst the work is completed.
“Support for the pitch has come from far and wide. Local MP Dr Luke Evans, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Leicestershire FA, local businesses, fans, past players and the local community have all pledged support in one way or another.
“Donations through the GoFundMe page that was set up have reached over £3,000, with a further £23,000 coming from other sources including Dan Young UK. Donations are still very welcome through the page. The Grants from the Football Foundation and the Football Stadia Improvement Fund total close to £600K.
“The pitch will be able to accommodate the Barwell FC first team and a whole range of local football sides, including those from schools and community groups. The impact of this new facility will be felt far and wide for many years to come.”
