Hinckley AFC are saddened to learn of the passing of long-standing supporter Alan Mason over the weekend.
A regular at Hinckley Athletic and Hinckley United until failing health prevented him attending in person, he was a fountain of knowledge on the history of football in the town.
But his commitment never waned despite not being able to attend, and he continued to request each and every matchday programme to add information to his records.
He continued to extend that knowledge to Hinckley AFC, by regularly writing an ‘On This Day’ column in our matchday programme looking back at the various clubs’ results on a particular day.
A well respected figure around the midlands non-league scene, he was known around the region for his encyclopedic knowledge and excellent contributions.
There will be a minute’s silence in Alan’s memory before Saturday’s FA Vase match at home to Ellesmere Rangers, to remember his fantastic contribution to local football.
Rest in peace, Alan.
