The Football Association have confirmed that four teams will be promoted from the Midland League First Division this season as part of a pyramid re-structure.
The top four clubs from all step six leagues this season will be promoted to step five for 2020-21, with the exception of the two South West divisions, including the Midland League, while the bottom two sides will be relegated to step seven.
At the end of the coming season, step five will have extra divisions nationally while step six will be reduced to 17 divisions across the country.
A Midland Football League statement read: “The Midland Football League submitted a credible application to be allocated an additional step 5 and step 6 division. Unfortunately, that application was unsuccessful, and we will continue to run one Step 5 and one Step 6 division next season.
“Two of our traditional feeder leagues, the West Midlands Regional League and the East Midlands Counties League, have lost their step six status, and this implies the make-up of our top two divisions next season will be very different.”
