Midfielder Jean Dakouri said it was an “amazing feeling” to have been voted as Hinckley AFC’s player of the season by the club’s fans and players.
Dakouri was almost ever-present in the middle of the park until injury affected him over the last month of the campaign, and became a fans’ favourite for his ball-winning displays.
But despite a difficult run of results, Dakouri was pleased with his personal contribution to the side.
He said: “I want to thank the fans at the club, and obviously the players for voting for me.
“It was an amazing feeling to win a couple of awards, it’s the first time in a couple of years now.
“I got injured for the last few games which stopped my form but it was nice, and I’ve enjoyed it”
Having been part of the transitional phase at the club all season, the central player has watched many of his fellow experienced players depart and many of the club’s younger Under 18s come through.
He says he’s enjoyed taking on a mantle of being a key player in a young side, and admits he’s had to adapt his game and take on more responsibility.
“There’s a bit more pressure (on the experienced players) with the young lads in, we have to perform.
“You have to adapt yourself to the environment. You have to pick up the pace, get the lads to fit in with the team.
“Having been skipper on and off with Hamo (Louis Hamilton) it’s been nice and just about enjoying our football really.
“It’s always nice to skipper, and lead the team. I don’t score many, only in the important games! So it’s my role to give us a good energy.”
