After a two week break, Hinckley AFC return to league action this afternoon when league leaders Lichfield City visit the Welfare Ground, kick off 3pm.
AFC last played a Midland League Division One game two weeks ago, when Studley fought back from 2-0 down to salvage a point in stoppage time.
It was an ending that disappointed manager James Jepson, who is raring to go again this afternoon. He said: “We can’t dwell on our last home game, but we were disappointed to concede late on to drop points.
“Lichfield have had a great start to the season, we know they’ll be a good side and well drilled as all sides seem to be against us. We’ll show them the respect
they deserve but concentrate on our game, and the way we want to play.”
Having won eight and lost four of their games so far, Lichfield come into the game at the top of the table and confidence is sure to be high in Jamie Hawkins’ side.
They head to the Welfare Ground as the league’s third highest scorers – Max Black, Drew Aiten and James Taylor all notching more than six goals so far.
But they’ve conceded the most goals of anyone in the top eight, and Hinckley will be hoping to exploit that later on.
Hinckley have been hit by a pair of departures this week, with goalkeeper Adam Harrison recalled by parent club Bedworth and Martin Hutchcox heading to Atherstone.
But Jepson says that provides a great opportunity for the younger players in the squad.
“We are working under different circumstances to last year, so whilst we want to be as successful as we can, we are looking at bringing in Under 18s players to make sure our long term future is bright.
“We can’t go out and throw money at players, and we’re working hard on making the players we have better and more consistent over a long period of time.”
