Hinckley AFC’s first home game in nearly a month sees Heath Hayes visit the Welfare Ground with AFC looking to continue their unbeaten start to the league season.
The last time Hinckley stepped out at the Welfare Ground was four weeks ago to face Anstey Nomads in the Emirates FA Cup.
But since then, James Jepson’s men have recorded two league wins and stopped Heather St John’s 100% record in a start that Jepson would have taken if offered it before the opening match.
He said: “The first game of the season we should have won, the second we were a bit hard done by, and we should have maybe won at Heather.
“But shoulda, woulda, coulda – we’ve got two wins and three draws. We’d probably have taken that, we’d definitely have taken an unbeaten start.”
The manager admits there is still work to do to convert more draws into wins, but says his side are focused on moving towards the upper echelons of the table.
“We’re not getting complacent, but if we can start taking our chances like we did at Chelmsley things are looking up.
“It’s a new squad, we’ve got a young squad which hasn’t settled yet, but the boys are together. Like at Chelmsley, when we celebrated with the fans, we’re one big club and there’s a good buzz about the place.”
Today’s visitors Heath Hayes are looking for their first win of the league campaign having drawn two and lost four of their matches thus far.
They did, however, beat Shifnal Town in the FA Vase last week and will be hoping to take the confidence from that into this afternoon.
The corresponding fixture last season, Dean Thomas’ final game in interim charge, saw an entertaining 4-4 draw at St John’s Park, while a month later AFC won the reverse fixture 4-1.
