Hinckley AFC manager James Jepson says the pre-season display at Eastwood has given him food for thought ahead of the league opener at Stapenhill.
AFC were beaten 2-0 at Coronation Park as two goals in six second half minutes gave the East Midlands Counties League side victory.
But while the manner of the defeat disappointed Jepson, the former Rugby Town boss is confident his side will be ready come next week’s Midland League Division One opener.
He said: “It was poor from start to finish. There weren’t many positives and it’s made me think about next week a lot.
“But we’ll be ready. It’s pre-season, we haven’t lost any points, but it gives us food for thought.
“It was the same on Tuesday night against Melton. We don’t know whether their goalkeeper was good because we didn’t test him.
“So it gives us plenty to think about, but we’ve got a game on Tuesday where we’ll try and put things right before moving forward to Saturday.
And while Jepson says he is “there or thereabouts” with knowing his starting eleven for the game at Stapenhil next week, he is hopeful of adding a new face or two before that game.
“We’ve got the option to bring in three or four players, which we’re hoping to do, and we had three or four lads missing today.
“Without giving too much away, we could bring in a striker who knows the club, as well as perhaps three players who we could bring in.
“If we can get those deals done then great, but even so we still have Grant Ryan and Sam Belcher to come back, so we’ll be ok.”
