The Midland League First Division’s two top goalscorers go head-to-head when Hinckley AFC face Heather St John’s in the landlords v tenants derby at St John’s Park this afternoon.
The two free scoring teams who go up against each other for the final time as landlords and tenants after AFC confirmed a move to Ibstock this week.
But the battle of the afternoon is likely to be between Simeon Cobourne and Steve Hart with the league’s two most potent hotshots on show.
Heather’s Cobourne, with 48 goals in his 34 league games this season, will be looking to bring up his half century of league goals this afternoon while Hinckley’s Hart has 40 from just 27 games in the league this term.
With cup games included, Cobourne has amassed 62 goals in all competitions this season and Hinckley’s chance of success this afternoon will likely be defined by keeping him quiet.
Both sides are far from being one man teams though, with Shane Benjamin and Dave Yonwin both approaching 20 goals for Heather this term while Luke Richards has already surpassed that landmark for Hinckley.
The game also sees fifth take on sixth in Division One. Hinckley will be looking for a win to keep pace with the sides above them, on whom they have games in hand, while Heather will move level on points with Richard Lavery’s men if they can take all three points this afternoon.
And with goals expected, the reverse fixture on Boxing Day didn’t disappoint as momentum swung this way and that, Cobourne’s hat-trick, including a stoppage time winner, bagging late success for Simon Lyons’ side.
With only league leaders Walsall Wood scoring more goals than these two sides this season, entertainment is sure to be in full supply come 3pm.
