After the highs of Saturday’s Buildbase FA Vase win over AFC Mansfield, Hinckley AFC return to the bread and butter of league action tonight with a trip to Heath Hayes, kick off 7-45pm.
Hinckley’s reward for their Vase win is a home tie against Deeping Rangers, but for now they must turn their focus back to Total Motion MFL Division One action.
The game at the Coppice Colliery Ground sees the meeting of the league’s two top scoring outfits, with Hinckley netting 50 times in just 15 games so far, and Heath Hayes scoring 47 in their 16 games.
It was no surprise, then, that the reverse fixture between the sides last month ended as a 4-4 draw, with Hinckley taking the lead four times and their visitors pegging them back each time.
Regan Smith has been their leading marksman with 19 in just 20 games to put him third in the Division One scorers’ chart but Jake Humphries, James McGready and Jack Weldon have also chipped in well with six apiece.
The problem for Heath Hayes, though, has been at the back and only four sides have conceded more goals they have. That said, the signs for them were good last time out, when they played Nuneaton Griff and kept their first clean sheet in eight games in a 6-0 win.
Former AFC winger Brad Rolston is back in Heath Hayes’ ranks after his brief spell at St John’s Park earlier this year. He appears to have settled well into life back at the club, scoring twice in 8 games from wide positions since re-joining.
Heath Hayes play at the Coppice Colliery Ground, Newlands Lane, Heath Hayes, Cannock, Staffordshire, WS12 3HH.
