New Hinckley AFC manager Dale Belford has started to refine his squad with the additions of three new players ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Coventry Alvis.
After the loss of several players to Market Drayton Town following Carl Abbott’s departure, Belford has moved to strengthen the squad ahead of a big few weeks in the Total Motion MFL Division One alongside the start of the club’s Buildbase FA Vase campaign.
The first of those new additions is goalkeeper Tyrell Belford, Dale’s son. Having been on the books of Coventry City and Liverpool as a youngster, Ty then joined Swindon and made 22 appearances for the Robins in the Football League before being released just under a year ago.
He played for Nuneaton Town earlier this season, and has also spent time at Oxford City and on loan at Southport. He represented England at both Under 16 and Under 17 level.
Irish attacking midfielder Kevin Thornton is another new signing, having previously worked under Belford at Tamworth and Rugby Town. The former Coventry City man played 50 times for the Sky Blues, as well as spending a couple of seasons in the Football League with Northampton Town.
Most recently with Coventry United, he has also played for Wrexham and Barwell.
The duo will be joined at the club by Dominic Perkins – a powerful and athletic centre half who joins from Bedworth United.
On the new additions, Belford said: “They’re three great signings for us.
“I felt Dom was someone we needed to bring in to add some pace to the back four. He really fits the bill on that.
“I like to play Kev in a position where he can hurt other teams, in and around the final third. Everyone knows what he’s capable of, he won the Player of the Year in the league above last year and I’m excited about working with him again. I like to think that I can get the best out of him.”
The manager also confirmed that he has put in seven days for Atherstone Town midfielder Josh Willis, who he worked with at Rugby, and is waiting for a conclusion on the deal.
