After being knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup, Hinckley AFC return to league action with a trip to Uttoxeter Town this evening, kick off 7-45pm.
Following their narrow defeat to Mickleover Sports on Saturday, manager Carl Abbott says Hinckley are looking forward to stringing back-to-back league games together now, and trying to build some momentum in the Midland League First Division.
They start that run with one of their longest away trips of the season, with Uttoxeter Town tonight’s hosts.
Having previously sat bottom of the table, Uttoxeter have won two of their last three to move them away from the basement. Wins over the two Coventry sides, Copsewood and Alvis, have lifted them to 18th, with seven points from their eight games thus far.
Meanwhile, Hinckley have played the fewest games in the league alongside the other side to have only just been knocked out of the FA Cup, Brocton. Abbott’s side have won three and lost two of those five games, with defeats to Walsall Wood and Atherstone meaning they sit 12th in the table ahead of tonight’s game.
Such is the close nature of the table at this early stage, a win for Hinckley would lift them to fourth, while three points for the hosts would see them leapfrog Hinckley and come within a point of the top half.
AFC had the better of the meetings between the sides last season, winning 6-1 in the away game before Sam Agar’s hat-trick set Hinckley on the way to a 6-2 win in the reverse fixture.
Uttoxeter play at Oldfields Sports Ground, Springfield Road, Uttoxeter, ST14 7JX.
