The Midland League Division One’s most potent strike forces will go head-to-head on Boxing Day when Hinckley AFC take on Leicester Road at St John’s Park, kick off 3pm.
The top of the table clash sees the two free scoring sides go up against each other, with local bragging rights at stake too.
As the best attack in the league, Hinckley have netted 65 goals in just sixteen league games this season, and scored 95 in all competitions before Christmas.
On Boxing Day, they take on a Leicester Road side who have scored 55 in seventeen games – and sit top of the league, one point ahead of Bromsgrove Sporting although they have played a game more.
Both sides have lost just two league games this term – AFC are just five points behind with a game in hand, and will narrow that to just two points with a win against their rivals on Monday.
Should Darious Darkin feature in the game, it will be his 50th for Hinckley. The midfielder is just one short of reaching his half century of appearances for the club, and has scored four goals during his time at St John’s Park including a long range strike that helped beat Boldmere St Michaels on Tuesday.
That took Hinckley into the quarter finals of the League Cup for the first time – and Boxing Day’s visitors are also in the last eight after beating Loughborough University.
AFC won all three fixtures between the sides last season. In the league game at St John’s Park, Luke Richards’ 94th minute winner capped off a stunning turnaround that saw Hinckley come from 2-0 down, before Ryan Seal’s 118th minute penalty sent AFC into the Jelson Homes Senior Cup semi finals two and a half weeks later. Seal scored another penalty to help AFC win the return league fixture in April.
With two sides full of attacking prowess, a top of the table clash and local rivalry, what more could you want from a Boxing Day afternoon?
