Hinckley AFC begin their defence of the Jelson Homes Senior Cup this evening when Shelthorpe Dynamo visit St John’s Park, kick off 7-30pm.
Carl Abbott’s side won their first piece of silverware back in May with a comfortable 5-1 win over Oakham United at Holmes Park, and are out to retain their title this season starting with tonight’s game against the Leicestershire Senior League side.
Speaking after Saturday’s win over Greenwood Meadows, Assistant Manager Paul Tomlinson made the side’s aims this season clear.
“It’s a serious cup competition, and we won it last year.
“You play this game to win things, and that’s why we’ve got coaches and players of the calibre we have. We want this football club to be successful.
“Everything we enter, we want to win”.
Having played just four games in the Senior League’s Premier Division so far, after their promotion last season, Shelthorpe sit twelfth out of fifteen teams having won one and lost three of their opening games.
With AFC having won five of their last six in all competitions, confidence will be high in the camp and they will want to extend that impressive recent run – which has seen them net 23 goals in six games – against Shelthorpe this evening.
