Hinckley AFC will be hoping the Emirates FA Cup can produce some more of its magic tomorrow evening when Heanor Town visit St John’s Park, kick off 7-45pm.
Carl Abbott’s side realised the magic of the world’s oldest cup competition twelve months ago, beating Walsall Wood, Bromsgrove Sporting and Redditch United in their first campaign in the competition.
Now, they will hope to repeat the feat when The Lions visit in the first match of the 2016-17 season.
Hinckley will take confidence from the similarity of the tie to the one at this stage twelve months ago. Heanor finished one place above Walsall Wood in the Midland League Premier Division last term, ending the campaign in sixth place and scoring one shy of a century of league goals.
AFC, meanwhile, netted 116 league goals in a campaign that saw them finish fifth in Division One in addition to their three victories in the FA Cup.
Last season, Heanor fell at the first hurdle in the FA Cup, losing 3-1 to another Leicestershire side – United Counties League outfit Kirby Muxloe. They will travel to St John’s Park looking to prevent history repeating itself tomorrow.
If tomorrow’s match ends in a draw at 90 minutes, the replay will take place on Wednesday evening, 10th August, at Heanor’s Town Ground. The winners of the tie will host the winners of another Leicestershire v Derbyshire clash – either Oadby Town or Long Eaton United.
