Ashby Ivanhoe Res 0-4 Hinckley AFC
Hinckley AFC comfortably progressed to the next round of the Jelson Homes Senior Cup with a 4-0 victory over Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves.
The victory came largely thanks to three goals in the space of five minutes in the first half as Marco Adaggio, Javia Roberts and Elikem Amenku all found the net before the break, and Adaggio added a fourth after it to secure the victory.
Oli Basham made his first start of the season in central defence as one of four changes to the Hinckley side that was beaten by Chasetown on Saturday. Jamie Newton, Roberts and Rico Taylor also came into the side.
There was very little in the game early on, and goalmouth action was limited, but Adaggio’s moment of brilliance opened the match up on 35 minutes. The striker received the ball with his back to goal, but expertly turned and curled a shot beyond the goalkeeper.
It took Hinckley over half an hour to open the scoring, but once they did there was no looking back. The game had barely re-started when Roberts doubled Hinckley’s lead as his long range strike was deflected past the stricken home ‘keeper.
And a third goal was quickly to follow as Hinckley continued to assert their dominance, Amenku bagging his first for the club with a low drive to end a spell of clinical finishing that took the game away from Ashby.
After the break, the majority of chances continued to fall Hinckley’s way. Asa Wright, on his return from injury, should have added a fourth but scuffed wide after rounding the keeper, before the same player blazed over after a number of ricochets in the Ashby box.
Adaggio added a fourth goal late on, tapping in Taylor’s left wing cross when unmarked, and Hinckley comfortably progressed to the next stage of the competition.
